Do you want to relieve your kid’s cough and congestion in a natural way?
It is usually worrisome for many parents when their children show symptoms of the common cold. These symptoms include coughing, sneezing, and congestion. When children have a stuffy nose, the way they breathe is affected. Most toddlers cannot blow their noses yet to clear their nasal passages.
Many people don’t know that a cough is actually the body’s defense mechanism. Coughing is the body’s way to clear the lungs and expel mucus. The post-nasal drip caused by runny nose and congestion irritates the small passageways in the lungs. This causes us to cough.
However, if the cough doesn’t go away after two weeks, there might be some other factors to consider. One common cause of persistent cough is allergies. Other symptoms of allergies are itchy eyes, ears, and throat. Another thing to look into when your child has a persistent or prolonged cough is asthma. It is always better to get the correct diagnosis to be able to get the appropriate treatment.
Pediatricians do not recommend children under the age of 4 to take over-the-counter cough and cold medications. This is because they are ineffective for young kids and can also pose serious side effects.
Essential oils can be used safely to soothe and relieve cough and congestion of children who are three years old and above. Rubbing a child’s chest with an essential oil blend can provide relief to a dry cough and promote healthy respiratory function.
Tea tree and frankincense essential oils are a natural expectorant and can help the body to expel mucus. Lavender and rosemary essential oils have decongestant properties that can help relieve a stuffy nose. Lavender also has calming properties that promote easy breathing and good sleep. All of these essential oils have antibacterial and antiviral properties that can help the body fight common colds and cough.
